Feed
|
In order to improve the body weight of our cattle we worked on the principle of feeding our steer 3% of his body weight. As he is a ruminant animal we also introduced the change in feed over a period of time.

Feeding McBeast
McBeast was given a combination of Hay, wheaten chaff, lupines, pollard and pellets as part of his diet. As he had initially been on paddock grass this was gradually changed inorder to accommodate for his digestive system
Gentling
As soon as we got McBeast, we knew that it was vital to handle him in a calm manner, this would get him used to being around the students and other people. As cattle have a very good memory of their experiences, we tried to make the transition to our school easy and pleasant for him. We then put him in the crush and allowed the Juniors to gentle McBeast in order for him to be comfortable with us so that we can parade him and handle him in a much less restrained environment.
